Frequently asked questions
What SelfOS does, how the intelligence works, and what happens to your data.
The basics
What is SelfOS?
SelfOS is a personal behavioural intelligence system. You log the small facts of your day — what you spent, what you ate, what you lifted, who you talked to — as structured entries rather than free-text journalling. SelfOS then turns that history into patterns and prompts you can actually act on.
Why structured logging instead of a journal?
A paragraph about your day can't be counted, compared, or trended. An entry that knows it is a ₹420 food expense at 1:10pm can. Every event type has an explicit shape, which is what makes insights, trends, and Orbit's answers possible at all.
Do I need an account?
Yes. Your data is tied to an email-and-password account so it can sync between your phone and the web app. Signing up takes one screen — create an account.
Is there an app, or is this web-only?
Both, on one account. The Android app is the primary surface — it works offline and syncs when it can, and it's where voice logging and meal photos live. The web app is a live view of the same data, better suited to reviewing insights on a big screen.
Logging your day
What can I log?
The core event types are:
- Money — spent, lent, received, or invested, with a category.
- Food — meals, typed or photographed, with calories and macros.
- Weight — a reading, whenever you take one.
- Gym — sessions, muscle groups, and cardio.
- Check-in — a quick note on how the day is going.
- Calls— a one-tap “talked today” against a person you track.
Alongside events you can keep intentions (tasks and plans), a financial profile (salary, EMIs, assets, budgets, insurance), people you stay in touch with, documents, and career and health profiles.
How fast is logging, really?
The Home screen leads with one-tap capture chips for the things you log most, so a spend or a meal is a few seconds. On Android you can also hold the mic and just say it — “spent 300 on lunch, chicken rice” — and it gets parsed into a structured entry for you to confirm. Meal photos work the same way: snap it, and the macros come back for review.
I logged something last night but it shows on today. Why?
It shouldn't — and if it does, it's a bug worth reporting. An event's day is the date you picked in the log form, never the moment you typed it or when it synced. Backfilling three days of meals on a Sunday puts each one on its own day.
Can I edit or delete an entry?
Yes. Every logged event is editable and deletable from the log on web, or from the timeline on Android. Derived numbers — insights, trends, tile stats — recompute from the corrected entry.
Which timezone are my days measured in?
Your own. The app reads the timezone from your phone and browser and keeps it in sync, so “today”, month boundaries, and the nightly nudge all follow your local clock rather than a server's.
Insights and Orbit
What do I actually get back?
Four things, in rising order of effort on your part:
- Home tiles— the glanceable state of your month: what's left to spend, whether you're on your macro targets, where your weight is trending, whether the gym rotation has slipped.
- Today's read — a short written brief on your day, plus nudges when something has genuinely changed.
- Insights — per-domain detail over a rolling 7 or 30 days for gym, food, and weight; month-by-month for money.
- Trends and patterns — direction of travel across domains, and correlations worth a second look.
What is Orbit?
Orbit is the assistant you can ask questions in plain language — “how much did I spend on food this month?”, “when did I last call Dad?” It reads your logged data directly to answer, so it's grounded in your actual history rather than guessing.
Does SelfOS use AI? Where?
Only at the edges. Language models power Orbit, the written brief and weekly review, and the parsing of voice notes, meal photos and messages into structured entries. Every number you see — totals, averages, streaks, savings rate — is computed by ordinary code from your entries, not produced by a model.
Why are some Home tiles missing?
By design. A tile only appears once it has real signal — the gym tile shows up after you've logged a session, the weight tile after your first reading. An empty dashboard of dashes tells you nothing, so the app would rather show you the capture row.
How much history before this gets useful?
Day one gives you today's numbers. Trends need about a week to have a direction worth trusting, and pattern detection is looking across weeks — so roughly a month of reasonably consistent logging is when it starts telling you things you didn't already know.
Privacy and your data
Who can see what I log?
You. Your data is scoped to your account and is not shared with other users, sold, or used for advertising. Full detail is in the privacy policy.
Do you track how I use the app?
Yes, and it is deliberately thin: which screens you open, which buttons you tap, and whether an action worked. It never contains what you logged — that a money entry was saved, never the amount; that you messaged Orbit, never the message. There is no third-party analytics or advertising SDK in the app.
Can I delete my account and everything in it?
Yes, at any time, from Profile → Delete accountin the Android app. It is immediate and permanent — events, financial profile, relationships, documents, intentions, photos, tokens. There is no grace period and no recovery. If you can't reach the app, email support@selfoshq.com from your registered address. Full steps: deleting your account.
Account and troubleshooting
I forgot my password.
Use forgot password and we'll email you a reset link, valid for 30 minutes. For your safety the page shows the same confirmation whether or not the address has an account, so check the inbox you actually registered with.
Something I logged on my phone isn't on the web.
The Android app writes locally first so logging never waits on a network, then syncs in the background. If the phone was offline, reopen the app on a connection and give it a moment, then refresh the web page. If it still hasn't appeared, that's worth an email.
I'm not getting notifications.
Check that notifications are enabled for SelfOS in your Android system settings, and that the app has been opened at least once since you signed in — the daily brief needs a registered device before it can reach you.
How do I report a bug or ask for something?
Email support@selfoshq.com. A screenshot and roughly when it happened is usually enough to find it.
